Sustainability

This page describes our current practices at Riihon Majatalo and the sustainability development work that is still in progress. We want to offer a warm welcome, an unhurried atmosphere and time together. We develop our operations step by step through everyday choices and long-term work.

Nature and everyday choices

We sort waste from our operations and compost part of our food waste. We replace older lights with LED lights when they stop working. When renewing taps and toilets, our purchasing policy is to choose water-saving models. We apply the same lighting and water-fitting purchasing principles to new construction. We have not measured the savings achieved through these choices.

Local life and cultural heritage

We are a family business in the village of Riiho, Keuruu, in Central Finland. The guesthouse has welcomed visitors since 1994. The former village school continues its life as a place for accommodation, celebrations, courses and shared experiences. Country-style food, the surrounding nature and local stories are an important part of the character of Riihon Majatalo.

People and wellbeing

It matters to us that every guest is welcomed as themselves. We want to create a calm, caring environment with space to rest, learn and spend time together. Please tell us about your needs before your visit so that we can discuss suitable arrangements with you.

Getting here

You can also travel to Riihon Majatalo by train via Haapamäki railway station. A pick-up from the station can be arranged in advance. Shared transport and travelling together are also options for groups.

Our development work continues

We participate in the Sustainable Travel Finland development programme. Participation in the programme does not mean that a business has been awarded the STF label. We have collected baseline electricity-consumption records for monitoring. The meter covers both business and residential use; consumption has not been separated between them or allocated to individual services. We will report achievements when we have evidence to support them.

Our next development steps are to document existing practices and clarify how consumption data can be used. These are development tasks, not claims of completed improvements or measured environmental benefits.
